The Story Of Joel & Son Fabrics

It was in the mid-1940s, amidst the early fog of post-war Britain, that a young tailor from North London called Hyman Bull left the services in search of work and came across a supply of army surplus materials for sale.


In 1952, unable to work due to illness, Hyman passed the running of the business to his 14 year old son Joel, who was forced to leave school in order to manage the family’s fabric stall. By 1976, however, business was booming. Joel decided to expand from one stall to four, setting up shop in Earls Court, Bell Street and Church Street Markets.

Joel's son, Gary, is now at the helm, and alongside his own son, Coby, who is also heavily involved in the running of the business, strives to maintain the quality of product and high level of Customer Service that Joel and Son Fabrics has always prided itself on.

I have visited Joel & Sons multiple times and every time I am blown away with their gorgeous selection of fabrics. It is my favourite fabric store in London, everything feels extremely luxurious. They have a lovely range fabrics in various price points depending on your project budget. I always work with Dino and he is always extremely helpful and delivers excellent customer service. I could not recommend this store more, it is always a treat to visit.

Totally epic shop. Truly vast - unbelievably vast - assortment of fabrics. Nice clean place with excellent lighting so you can really see what you are looking at. Informative and professional staff are there to help but do not ambush you either. Truly an experience. Highly recommended. We browsed for a long time, my friend got a product number, and everyone was just really nice to us. It would be difficult to overstate: the selection is HUGE.
