If there is a designer who can melt the hearts of even the most cynical women, it would be Elie Saab.
The Lebanese couturier’s spell has struck again enchanting many with this season’s romantic fairytale. Featuring feminine silhouettes, luxurious adornment, magnificent ornamental embroidery and that unique eye for colour that shows the artistic side of the designer’s multifaceted talent; who wouldn’t be captivated?
Each perfectly coiffed model strutted down the catwalk looking as if they belong to some sort of tribe for the sultry goddesses. As for the colour palette, it is beyond dreamy. Saab only used the prettiest hues that inspire the most poetical of moods. Breathtaking shades of powder blue, peach, vanilla, plum and rose deflected from the chandeliers behind the runway. But there were not just block colours, the pastels were also used in an ombre effect. The collection displays a striking colour scheme graduating from ink blue to baby pink or scarlet.
A multitude of textiles have been used to create this feminine dream world. Joel & Son love the use of Guipure lace with sheer fabric, duchess satin and heavy beading with a glamorous fur stole.
A repetitive trend throughout the collection is floor length skirts cinched at the waist to contrast the shapes. Saab’s dresses are designer to empower the female form.
As usual, in classic Elie Saab style, the show closed with a series of pristine white wedding gowns that showed some traditional silhouettes as well as several modern options.
The Haute Couture A/W 14-15 collection illustrates the fact that Elie Saab does not need to present a complex concept behind his work using crazy theatrics to impress his critics. Women will always love his exquisite work because it makes us dare to dream about the amazing occasions in life and suitable garments to wear for them.
